Simulated Daguerreotype

For my daguerreotype I wanted it to have a modern look, to contrast with the vintage edge, so I chose my all time favorite photo i have taken in this class, and dragged it into photoshop. I took out all the color by using the "curves" tool, then added an orange tint to imply age. I went on the textures website, and found a basic, flat metal, that had an mild texture, and used layering in photoshop to apply it over the original image. I shifted it around, until the pattern was obviously blocking, but instead an added accent, then used the burn tool to create a half inch border around the beater, and the edge of her face.

Chiascuro Conversion Photos

 The second photo I decided to convert into black and white was for a different reason than the barbie photo. I felt that the color took away from the detail of the black, and because it was such a pungent orange almost directed your eyes away from it. When I made it negative, the details stood out, and you were able to see how it focused, and made a more visually appealing photograph.

I used Iphoto again, and took down the saturation all the way, and sharpened the edges. Then I increased the exposure a bit so that the right edge of the closest block would stand out more.

Chiascuro Conversion Photos

I chose to convert this image to black and white, because out of all my photos, i found this one to be the eeriest, and black and white only increases that aura.
Because I was not at school when I took and edited this photo, I just used the basic Iphoto program to bring down the saturation, sharpen the image, and upped the contrast a lot.

Chiaroscuro

Chiaroscuro in art is characterized by strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. It is also a technical term used by artists and art historians for using contrasts of light to achieve a sense of volume in modeling three-dimensional objects such as the human body.
