Portrait Favorites
This was one of my snapshots for the "family and friends" section. In all the photos I took on the deck, they all looked really relaxed and happy. Because my sister and her friend had just woken up, they didn't really care about not having makeup, and when they weren't self conscious about people seeing them, they were more natural. (They didn't know I was going to put them on the internet). Part of what is so interesting about this photo, is how intricate the background is. It saves it from becoming too drab, and almost looks photoshopped in, because of how ordinary they look.
Favorites Portraits
I think this would be considered a commercial photograph, and even though it could pass for a classic portrait, something about it seems more commercial. I don't know if it is the lighting, which I especially like because we were in pure darkness, and it was all flash, so it almost seems purer and in higher definition. All my favorite photographs are ones where the people are natural and almost caught off guard. The colors and contrast and shadowing all just work really well together.
Portrait Favorites
This is one of my favorite photos, and it is a classic portrait because it features her head and shoulders, and although her legs are in the frame, since only her face is in focus, it draws attention to it. I chose the black and white for simplicity, and all in all I really like how it turned out. When I took the photo, she had just turned and wasn't posed at all, and her surprise can almost pass as vulnerability. The lighting is simple, and the contrast isn't too intense to detract from the picture.
